The toilet paper holder is the most-used piece of hardware in any home. A bathroom can survive a slightly wrong towel bar; it cannot survive a tissue holder that fights every roll change. Choose carefully.
What makes a good toilet paper holder
Two things: the spring tension on the bar, and the silhouette of the post. The spring should hold the bar firmly enough that the roll doesn't drop when you tear, but loose enough that you can swap an empty roll one-handed. Cheap tissue holders fail at one of those two; good ones balance both.
The post silhouette matters because the tissue holder is read in profile at close range every time it's used. The end-cap proportion, the stem detail, and the mounting plate all matter at this scale in a way they don't on hardware at standing height.
Mounting and placement
Standard placement is 26 inches from the floor and 7–9 inches in front of the toilet's leading edge. Lower or higher than that range starts to feel wrong even if you can't say why. Mount into a stud where possible; for drywall installs, use a wall anchor rated for at least 25 lbs to handle the inevitable yanking.
