What separates a good towel bar
Three things, in order: weight, end-cap proportion, and mounting. A flimsy towel bar bends within a year of holding wet towels; a substantial one sits straight for decades. The end caps — where the bar meets the wall — are where designer-level proportion shows; cheap towel bars have stamped or molded end caps that look exactly like what they are.
Mounting matters as much as design. A towel bar anchored only to drywall pulls out at the first heavy bath sheet. The right install hits a stud or uses a wall anchor rated for the towel bar's loaded weight.
Sizing and placement
Standard towel bar lengths are 18", 24", and 30". For most primary baths, a 24" or 30" bar is the right size — long enough for an unfolded bath sheet to dry properly, short enough not to dominate the wall. For powder rooms and small baths, 18" is correct.
